basement is progressing

We spent most of the day yesterday in the basement cleaning. What a big job but hubby helped out a lot and built some nice shelves to store everything. I can’t believe how much stuff I had to throw out and/or give away.

My new best friend is my label maker, everything is sorted into a labelled container and on the shelves!!!

There is still some work to do but carrying the bags of stuff out of the house was so freeing!!! There were lots of cobwebs in the ceiling so I shop-vaced all of those up.

The kids were helpful and well behaved it was strange but we took advantage of the day and kept at it.

Our plans are to paint the floor and get some area rugs, build a half-wall around the furnace, water heater etc. and make a nice play area for the kids!

We are getting there!!

Basement photos - BEWARE

Well really I want to just throw a match down there and be done with it, this is my biggest mess. My hubby wanted to get a start on the basement but it is such a huge job. These pictures are from a week ago and we have made some progress. We have already taken out the wall in the middle of the room and are planning to make it a big playroom. I have thrown away 4 big garbage bags, and given away about 10 boxes of stuff to Goodwill (mostly baby things). We have had a bit of a delay tomorrow our 5 year old daughter is getting her tonsils out and my Grandmother died on Saturday so we are busy with life as it comes.





























































































I can't wait to post the after photos it will be such a relief to have this cleaned up!! It is just one of those places where you close the door and pretend like nothing is down there.

bathroom drawers - done

This whole job took only 35 minutes and I have been avoiding it for a couple years. 1 - 1/2 grocery bags of garbage and it was so much nicer getting ready this morning when everything was in it's place.

Once again I feel really great about it.

Now it's on to the basement!!!

Well I have officially started and completed one piece of this giant project!! I scrubbed the bathroom top to bottom too! Maybe I can work on the drawers when the kids are in the tub tonight!

Start small

I decided the bathroom is the smallest room and one with VERY much clutter. My kids love to grab everything in the drawers to play with but things never seem to get back to where they started. I just clean up and stuff everything away.
I am embarassed to publish these photos but it is something I must do!!

time to be rid of this mess

Well I am officially overwhelmed by the clutter in my home. I work in a library and I'm an organized person but I have let things go around the house because I want to spend time playing with my kids.

It seems that every drawer is a mess, every cupboard and my desk, ugh, its an endless pile of papers most of which are garbage.

This blog is my motivation to get going tonight I will take pictures of all the areas that I need to declutter and then the work really begins. I am hoping that before and after photos will help keep me motivated and maybe my blog readers can help encourage me too!

I really want to get new carpet and do some house painting but I don't even want to think about moving all the crap I have. I need to be ruthless in my garbage/give away pile and I am ready for that.

Whew it is a huge project..........
